Deontay Wilder booked on firearms charge in los Angeles

Former world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has been booked in Los Angeles on a gun charge.

According to TMZ, he was in prison on Tuesday morning after a traffic stop in the city. Wilder was, according to the TMZ story, pulled over at around 1.15am by LAPD officers who believed the windows of his Rolls Royce were illegally tinted and that the registration plate was not clearly visible.

TMZ sources claimed their officers could smell marijuana during the stop and that they found a 9mm in the vehicle but that Wilder was pleasant throughout the incident.

Jail records show Wilder was released on bail at 6.34am.

Wilder is a passionate proponent of firearms. He has built a gun range at his home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and has owned an assortment of weapons, from hand guns to rocket launchers.

Wilder recently indicated he would be interested in facing long-time rival and former unified heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua.
