Fabio Wardley, the British heavyweight champion, feels like a future clash with 2020 Olympian Frazer Clarke is inevitable.
Wardley, 15-0 with 14 stoppages, fights Brooklyn contender Michael Polite-Coffie on the Anthony Joshua-Jermaine Franklin bill at London’s O2 on Saturday while Clarke was victorious over Bogdan Dinu last weekend to move to 6-0.
“Frazer is obviously quite an inevitable name and we are going to clash horns at some point,” Wardley told the BBC.
“He seems like one of the prime candidates and has said numerous times he wants to have a go for the British belt. It seems like that would go together pretty well.”
Wardley has sparred, among others, Tyson Fury, Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, but he is with Matchroom while Clarke is with Boxxer, so there are political boxing hurdles to negotiate if that fight is to be made.
“Everyone loves a good tear-up for the British belt, especially at heavyweight so there will always be appealing fights,” Wardley said.
Wardley, 28, won the British title with a third round stoppage of Nathan Gorman at Wembley Arena last November, dropping Gorman twice in round two and once in the third.
Polite-Coffie is 13-3 with 10 early wins from his 16 pro fights. He has lost three of his last four contests.
