Vergil Ortiz Jr. is returning to his hometown in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area with a massive fight on March 18th, as he will face WBA ‘Regular’ welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis in a 12-round world title fight.
The fight announced first by Mike Coppinger of ESPN.com, will be promoted by Golden Boy Promotions who edged out TGB Promotions, as the lead promoter.
Stanionis stepped aside for Errol Spence Jr. to pursue a Terence Crawford fight, but the waiting was not all for not, as he will make over 1.7 million dollars for this fight.
The bout came about when Golden Boy Promotions and Rick Mirigian political positioned themselves in the WBA title eliminator forcing the fight to happen.
A fantastic fight on paper, and one the sport needs badly right now.
