Lomachenko heads to Australia for Kambosos fight May 12

Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. will headline a May 12 card likely in Perth, but certainly in Australia, according to reports from Mike Coppinger on an ESPN broadcast Saturday, and Boxing Scene on Sunday.

The fight will be Lomachenko's first since a competitive bout against Devin Haney around that time last year, when he produced a spirited performance but failed to win over the judges in a disputed decision loss to the American in Las Vegas. Haney beat Kambosos twice before fighting Lomachenko.

Kambosos will have been out of the ring for almost as long as Lomachenko having bounced back from the Haney losses to score a majority decision win over Maxi Hughes in July, last year.

The event could take place at the 15,000 seater venue RAC Arena in Perth, Boxing Scene reports.

It is another big event for Australian combat sports as the nation is surging thanks to Kambosos, Jai Opetai, twin brothers Jason and Andrew Moloney, and UFC star Alexander Volkanovski.

The Moloney brothers could even feature on the show, Boxing Scene adds.

Jason Moloney retained his WBO bantamweight world championship with a majority decision win over Saul Sanchez at the Videotron Centre venue in Quebec City, Canada, on Saturday.

Depending on how he recovers from facial injuries sustained in that bout, he could find a place on the Lomachenko-Kambosos show, alongside Andrew, who rebounded from a Knockout of the Year contender loss to Junto Nakatani in May, last year, with a decision win over Judy Flores in Australia, last month.

It is currently unclear who Jason or Andrew Moloney will fight.

The event takes place on a Sunday morning and afternoon local due to global time differences, and will air on ESPN+.
