Usyk: Fury Is Too Afraid To Fight Me

Oleksandr Usyk is a man who is often reference with adjectives such as talented, respectful, dominant, fun, eccentric to name but a few. Opinionated is also an adjective which Usyk is very familiar, confident in his own ability and backs up his words with his actions in the ring. This was prominent in August when Usyk re-affirmed his mantle of being unified world heavyweight champion defeating Anthony Joshua in a rematch following his 2021 success against the two time unified world champion in comfortable fashion. Following the rematch, Usyk called for an undisputed showdown with Tyson Fury and in fairness Fury obliged and opened discussions but those talks have since hit an impasse with Usyk ruling himself out till 2023 according to himself and his management team.

Usyk hasn't held back his opinions on his YouTube channel Uysk17. Usyk also gave his thoughts on the potential fight with Fury & Joshua and his opinion on his realistic desires for the rest of his career which includes a fight in Ukraine at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev.

“The thing is that everyone is expecting Usyk-Fury fight for the undisputed championship, which hasn’t occurred in the heavyweight division, Despite his toughness and how he is generally described, he (Fury) is afraid.”

Usyk also joked that he will not watch any prospective fight between Fury and Joshua before elaborating that it is important for him to fight for the undisputed title.

“No, I will support neither of them. I won’t even watch this fight,” before making it clear he was just joking.

“No, it’s just that I want to outbox Fury for now,” Usyk said. “The championship unification is far better and more important than just a fight or a title defense.”

“I don’t want to work and box that much just for the defense itself. There’s much more than that and I can achieve it.

Usyk who recently has said that he believes that he has three “top level” performances left inside him and has targeted Fury, Canelo and a retirement fight in his homeland.

“After my last bout (with Joshua) I can fight in my top form three times more at best, With Fury, Canelo, and the farewell fight at Olympiyski. Yes, with Canelo. He wanted to fight with me. But it will be a ‘freak fight’, just for the sake of earning money.”
