Tyson Fury sends contract offer to Anthony Joshua for September fight

WBC world heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury, has claimed that he wishes to fight former two-time unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua for a proposed fight to be held in September at Wembley Stadium. Fury revealed the sensational claims originally on Instagram and stated that it is “a fight that everyone wants to see” and that a contract has been sent a draft contract to Joshua.

Fury’s offer comes a day after the confirmation of current WBA, WBO, IBF & IBO world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is all but set to face his mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois which is heavily speculated to take place on August 12th and held in Wroclaw, Poland. Usyk’s handlers were successful in purse bids to obligate their mandatory challenger with a winning bid of $8million.

Fury and Usyk had been negotiating earlier this year for a proposed bout at Wembley in April. However, those talks fell apart following Fury’s refusal to agree to a 50/50 purse split for any rematch if Usyk had hypothetically won any original fight. That is before Usyk agreed to take a 30% purse split for any contest after Fury laid out his initial demands with a series of videos published on social media to set out his terms.

Last year, Fury & Joshua found themselves negotiating for a December 2022 fight date following Joshua’s defeat to Usyk in August which was held in Saudi Arabia. Following the defeat, Fury stated he wanted to face Joshua and offered him a date for December 17th which would have taken place at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff. The pair had agreed on a 60/40 purse split in favour of Fury, but talks had stalled and collapsed on September 26th. Fury would then proceed to fight Derek Chisora for a third time in December at New White Heart Lane Stadium, London.

Earlier this week, Fury whilst supporting Joseph Parker in Australia, stated that he was exploring opportunities to fight in Australia with Dempsey McKean and current IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia linked as Fury’s next opponents, much to the bewilderment of the industry.

Joshua, Matchroom Boxing or 258 management have not commented publicly regarding Fury’s offer or acknowledgement of any offer being received at the time of publication.
