Trainer Tony Sims excited to see Ryan Garcia present Tank Davis with problems in superfight

On Saturday night, trainer Tony Sims is in Cardiff and two of his fighters will have his undivided attention.

Joe Cordina bids to become a two-time world champion and Jordan Thompson, a cruiserweight prospect, has his first fight since hooking up with the coach.

But after the final bell in Cardiff, the eyes of the boxing universe will turn to Las Vegas and to the hugely-anticipated lightweight showdown between two of the best in the world, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia.

It’s a wonderful match, and Sims is looking forward to it as much as anyone.

Tank, 28-0 (26 KOs), has phenomenal power, Garcia, 23-0 (19 KOs), has incredible speed and both are near their primes. It has a throwback feel to it, and while Sims is siding with Baltimore’s Davis, he thinks Californian Garcia might cause him some issues, particularly early on.

“He [Garcia] will present problems because he’s got great handspeed,” Sims added. “But I just don’t think that when you look at Luke Campbell had him on the floor… and I know he got up to stop Luke, but Davis is a whole different kettle of fish. He [Tank]’s dangerous. He’s smart. Just looking at his record he’s near on knocked everyone out. I think he [Tank]’s a real class act. I just think he will be hard to beat, really.”
