According to ESPN, a clash between super-welterweights Vergil Ortiz (20-0, 20 KOs) and Tim Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) is reportedly planned for August 3 in Los Angeles, California.
Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) will face WBA world super-welterweight champion Israil Madrimov (10-0-1, 7KOs) on the to-be-announced card at the BMO Stadium. Ortiz-Tszyu could also be added to the highly anticipated event.
Ortiz must first get by Thomas Dulorme on Saturday (April 27) before proceeding to face Tszyu.
Ortiz-Dulorme is this weekend’s co-main event alongside Jose Ramirez’s return to action against Rances Barthelemy in Fresno, California.
On Wednesday, a press conference will take place in New York to confirm Crawford-Madrimov. The event will signify the first American foray of Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority and the promotion of the event will organized by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing
The BMO stadium has a capacity of 22,000.
BoxingScene reported previously that the undercard to Crawford-Madrimov is set to feature Isaac Cruz (26-2-1, 18 KOs), who will make the first defense of his WBA super lightweight title against Jose Valenzuela (13-2, 9 KOs) on the card alongside heavyweights Jarrell Miller (26-1-1, 22 KOs) and Andy Ruiz (35-2, 22 KOs) .
Tszyu suffered his first career loss last month in a bloody encounter against Sebastian Fundora. He lost a split decision to the 6ft 6ins Fundora, who relieved the Australian of his WBO world title while also claiming the vacant WBC world title.
Following his successful stoppage win over Michael McKinson in August 2022, Ortiz had seen three fights collapse due to rhabdomyolysis. He eventually recovered and returned to the ring in January against Fredrick Lawson, claiming a first-round stoppage.
