One of the biggest fights in boxing was officially announced yesterday. Although the media is awaiting the press release with the details, both unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) and WBO champ Terence Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) acknowledged the fight info via their separate social media accounts. Both had their fair share of initial trash talk go out, whether it was a graphic or them speaking about it.
Before the announcement, Crawford posted a picture with Gillie & Wallo, the hosts of the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast, which happens to be one of the biggest platforms within pop culture. The episode was recorded and held specifically until the fight was announced, which is why they will premiere the episode on Sunday. Until then, Gillie has dropped some snippets of the episode on his Instagram account that will make the episode much anticipated.
One of the clips shows Crawford talking to the Interim IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (30-0, 27 KOs) on a video call as Gillie has a relationship with Ennis. The topic of discussion was the fact that Ennis had been calling for a fight with Crawford for some time now, but Crawford had a different opinion of Ennis’ thoughts. Crawford said, “Go to sleep. You dreamin. You talkin' in your dreams.” Ennis replied, “We asked for that fight plenty of times.” Crawford then said, “When? What’s plenty? You frontin. You frontin' now. Don’t front for Gille now. You keep saying to keep it a buck. I’m saying when (as far as asking for the fight). You are saying one thing, and your dad is saying another thing. What is what. You’ve been asking to fight me since 2018? Cut it. Cut it. You believe that? You a fool (pointing to Wallo). You drunk (pointing to Gillie), and you sleepy (pointing towards Ennis, who seemed to be laying in bed).”
In another episode clip (which premiers on Sunday), Crawford addressed the difference between him fighting Kell Brook and when Errol Spence Jr. did. Crawford told Gillie & Wallo, “I’m not no hater. I don’t want people to say I’m hating on Spence. I’m a fan of Spence. I’m going to just kick his ass when we fight. When Spence fought Kell Brook, Kell Brook had went up to fight GGG. He was too small, and he got crushed. At that point of time, they rushed him within months to get back down to 147 to fight Errol Spence. He wasn’t healed, eye still messed up, weight drained, and all that. Errol Spence wore him down. Then, you know what I mean, broke him down. Credit. The difference between when I fought him, he was on a three-fight winning streak. So he’s not coming off of a loss. He’s not coming off an injury. The man said it out of his own mouth, ‘this is the best I ever felt in my career.’ You know what I mean, so that is that.”
The promotion for this one has kicked off nicely, and we will see more rolled out in the coming weeks as they attempt to gain the attention of the causals to make the event as big as boxing fans have made it.
