Undisputed super-lightweight world champion Katie Taylor and former holder Chantelle Cameron are reportedly set to recommence their rivalry with a third consecutive fight.
Earlier reports suggested the highly-anticipated trilogy bout was no longer headed to the 82,000 capacity Croke Park, which was what Taylor and promoter Eddie Hearn had hoped for following her triumphant rematch victory over Cameron on November 25 at Dublin’s 3Arena.
Negotiations between Matchroom Boxing and the Dublin GAA, who own Croke Park, had been unable to progress, with Hearn citing the cost of hiring the Croke Park stadium as “very expensive” in a recent update to the BBC.
Media outlet Irish Boxing reports that Taylor and Cameron will return to the 3Arena for a third time following their two-fight-of-the-year contenders against each other in April and November of 2023.
The reported date of the trilogy encounter at the Dublin venue is May 25.
Cameron, in April, would cause one the biggest upsets in boxing with a career-best performance against Taylor to successfully defend her then undisputed champion status, silencing an expectant Dublin crowd with the original fight date serving as Taylor’s professional debut in her native Ireland and claim a majority decision.
The pair returned to the same venue in a contractually agreed rematch. Taylor reversed the verdict to a majority decision in her favour to clamour and fanfare on an emotionally fueled night in November and became a two-weight undisputed champion following holding the same mantle at lightweight simultaneously.
