Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall set for April 27 rematch

Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall are reportedly close to agreeing terms for a rematch at Leeds' First Direct Arena on April 27.

The rematch, which according to ESPN is on course, is intended to conclude the rivalry that began with their highly controversial fight in Glasgow in February 2022.

Taylor controversially retained his then-undisputed super-lightweight championship against his mandatory challenger, despite suffering a knockdown in the eighth round in a fight in which both fighters were deducted points. Taylor was awarded a split decision verdict via scores of 114-111, 113-112 and 112-113.

Their rivalry has since become increasingly bitter. Discussions were held regarding possible rematches proposed for 2022 and 2023.

Following his victory over Catterall, Taylor vacated his IBF, WBA and WBC titles. He later lost the WBO title to Teofimo Lopez at the Madison Square Garden Theater, New York, in June 2023, when after 15 months of inactivity he conceded a unanimous decision.

Catterall fought twice in 2023, when defeating Darragh Foley and Jorge Linares.
