Smith & Maxwell make weight ahead of British & Commonwealth title encounter

Dalton Smith (14-0) and Sam Maxwell (17-1) both weighed in successfully ahead of July 1st’s British & Commonwealth super-lightweight title encounter between the two former team GB podium squad members, with the fight taking place at the Sheffield Arena, South Yorkshire.

Both fighters weighed in the same at 139.4 lbs as Smith looks to defend his British title for the third time and, if successful, will be seeking to move onto bigger and better things as Matchroom Boxing continues to build the popular Sheffield fighter into a prominent and leading fixture within the Matchroom stable. Maxwell currently holds the Commonwealth title and will be defending the title for the first title since claiming the title from Akeem Ennis Brown in August of 2021.

The chief support sees 2020 Olympic silver medalist Pat McCormack (4-0) take a big step up in opponent calibre and face the popular and well-travelled Tony Dixon (14-4) in a super-welterweight encounter scheduled for ten rounds. McCormack weighed in a shade over 150 lbs with an official weight of 150.2lbs, with Dixon coming in at 148.2 lbs.

Hopey Price (10-0) weighed 125.5 lbs as he takes on James Beech Jnr (15-4) in an all-English featherweight affair over ten rounds.

Junaid Bostan (5-0) received a warm reception ahead of an intriguing encounter with the unbeaten Ryan Amos, which is to be held over eight rounds. Amos (10-0-1) weighed in first at 155 lbs with Bostan weighing a touch heavier at 155.4 lbs.

Lewis Sylvester (11-0) and Adam Cope (7-0) weighed in under the lightweight limit at the pair contest the vacant English lightweight title in arguably a fight that has slipped under the radar for its competitiveness. Cope, who follows his brothers Peter and Dan in turning over to the pro ranks, weighed in at 133.9 lbs, while Sylvester weighed in a touch more at 134.3 lbs.

Olympic silver medalist Beatriz Ferreira (2-0) of Brazil makes her British debut under the Matchroom banner. She weighed in at 132lbs as she takes on Karla Ramos Zamora (10-9-1) over eight two-minute rounds. Zamora would weigh in at 130.4 lbs.

Mansfield’s Nico Leivars (3-0-1) weighed 123.1lbs as he faces the unbeaten Alberto Motos of Spain over six rounds. Motos would weigh in at 122.1 lbs.

Cory O’Regan will open the card this upcoming Saturday (9-0) against the battle-hardened Jordan Ellison (14-48-3) in an encounter that will act as a barometer for O’Regan as he pursues a domestic title opportunity. O’Regan would weigh in at 137.5 lbs, while Ellison would weigh in at 138.8 lbs.
