Shakur Stevenson Misses Weight, Titles Now Vacant

The best current 130 lbs in the world, Shakur Stevenson shocked the world as he lost his titles…. on the scale.

Now the WBO and WBC super featherweight titles are vacant unless 2016 Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceicao defeats him, which the oddsmakers feel are very unlikely to see an upset in the main event.

A short time after Stevenson missed weight at 131.6 lbs, 1.6 lbs over the championship limit, Stevenson let be known via Twitter, that he was not going to be making the weight.

“I gave it my all,” Stevenson stated to his fans and the general public in a tweet via Twitter. “I’ve been a professional my whole career and made weight, but my body just can’t make 130 anymore. My health has to come first. I’m moving up to 135 in my next fight.”

Stevenson had been hinting prior to the fight that he would be moving up to 135 lbs., soon. We just didn’t know that it would be his next fight. For fight fans, this is bittersweet as Stevenson moving up to lightweight means the marquee bouts between Devin Haney, and Vasyl Lomachenko exist at that weight class.

Since Stevenson moved up from 126 lbs., he has been 5-0 in the super featherweight division, defeating Oscar Valdez in his last fight.
