Shakur Stevenson Admits That Gervonta Davis Is The Lightweight Division's "Cash Cow"

Shakur Stevenson (20-0, 10KOs) has conceded that Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27KOs) is the lightweight division’s cash cow regarding the financial power of Davis, which has now earnt. Davis starred and excelled against divisional rival Ryan Garcia last month in Las Vegas, Nevada, ultimately securing a definitive seventh-round stoppage.

Not only did Davis win, but the event was also a financial success, with the fifth-highest earning gate recorded in Las Vegas history. Along with the income earnt on the gate, PPV sales of over 1.2 million have also been recorded, suggesting that Davis is now a bonafide PPV star.

Former two-weight world champion and lightweight contender Stevenson feels that himself vs Davis could be one of the most anticipated fights in the sport in which could be made. This is despite the fact that both fighters operate under different promoters and television networks, which has always muddied the waters within the sport in these proposed fights.

However, Stevenson has admitted that he would be the B-side regarding any proposed match-up between himself and Davis. Stevenson compared the current WBA title holder to Floyd Mayweather, who has handled his career despite prior differences via Mayweather Promotions. Stevenson feels that Davis is now in a position where he can pick and choose who he wishes to fight, striking a direct comparison to Mayweather, something which he earnt with his stardom, ability and financial muscle.

“I’m ready right now, I’m ready right now (to fight Davis),” Stevenson told TMZ. “But I think it depends on what he wants to do. He’s the cash cow; he’s the A-side.

“He can pick and choose right now. He’s at that point. He’s like at the Floyd Mayweather point where he can go, ‘I’ll fight him, I’ll fight him, but I’ll wait to fight him.’

“He’s got that type of leverage right now, so it’s all up to him. Nothing but respect for what he just did; I respect it.”
