Jamel 'Semper Fi' Herring's return fight rumored to be hosted at the West Point Military Academy

A week ago, former WBO super featherweight champion Jamel ‘Semper Fi’ Herring (23-4, 11 KOs)announced his return. There was plenty to discuss as he reunited with his old strength and conditioning coach but also would be taking his training camp to Las Vegas, NV, and working out of the UFC training facility. Herring initially hinted at retirement after losing a unanimous decision to Jamaine Ortiz (16-1-1, 8 KOs) last May. He then started consistently calling fights for Top Rank & ESPN on their international stream. Now that he is officially returning, details of his next fight are starting to roll out.

ProBoxTV has learned that Herring’s comeback is being finalized for September, and the site will be the West Point Military Academy in West Point, NY. This academy is one of the most established military academies in the country. Although the program is directly affiliated with the Army, Herring, a Marine Corps Veteran, has received huge support from all of the members of the armed forces throughout his career and has been chasing the opportunity to fight on a military installation for years. If this location is finalized, it will be an event viewed by military members worldwide.

Herring knows that the odds are heavily against him to have a successful comeback. Still, he is a fighter who has battled against adversity throughout his whole life, and this upcoming fight will be no different. Herring has stated to ProBoxTV that he will see how he feels after this comeback fight in September before making any further decisions on what happens next. One thing is for sure, he will be returning to the super featherweight division where he was once a champion. With his personality and experience, the super featherweight division can use a fighter like Herring to make some interesting matchups.
