Ryan Garcia reveals he messaged Haney to tell him that Lomachenko "edged it out" against him

Ryan Garcia has added his name to the list of fighters and influential figures in scoring last month’s undisputed lightweight showdown between Devin Haney & Vasyl Lomachenko and completely disagreeing with the official result. Haney would claim a unanimous points win over the three-weight world champion Lomachenko to retain his undisputed titles with scores of 115-113x2 & one card of 116-112.

Lomachenko, Top Rank’s Bob Arum and other leading names in the sport disagreed with the scorecards, which fans of the sport criticized too on social media.

Haney did start the contest well, but Loamchenko finished the fight strongly, as his combination punches were in full flow while negating the efforts of Haney to respond.

Garcia, who has long been linked with a fight with Haney, joined the list of those who disagreed with the scorecards and believed that Lomachenko did enough to get the nod from the judges.

When speaking to the fitness influencer Bradley Martyn on Martyn’s youtube channel, Garcia says he reached out to Haney to tell him he had lost in his opinion.

“I messaged [Haney]. I said, ‘yo, bro. I thought Loma edged it out but try to look past the hate that you’ve been taking on and just look forward.

“I was there. I thought Loma edged it out. People say, ‘Oh, don’t call it robbery.’ Okay, but when somebody deserved to win, that’s still somewhat of a robbery, even if it’s by one point or two points. [Lomachenko] probably should have won. To me, from what I saw up close, Loma landed the more effective shots. He was hitting him cleaner. Devin was just kind of posing a lot, like, you know, jab, but it wasn’t really clear. I didn’t see anything clear. But Loma’s mistake is running it up on Devin and just suddenly starting to back up. I think he’s always fought that way, though. I’m like, dude, you’re already running it up. Devin doesn’t have an answer for you at that moment. Maybe it’s a conditioning thing. I don’t know. I think part of [Haney] knows that it was really, really close. But I don’t want to take anything away from Devin.”
