Ryan Garcia’s majority decision win over Devin Haney on Saturday, April 20 in New York has many wondering who he will fight next.
Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) has options. He could rematch Devin Haney, he could fight in-house Golden Boy fighters like Jose Ramirez, or he could attempt to fight WBO and WBC junior middleweight world champion Sebastian Fundora – something he has brought up.
BoxingScene recently spoke to Eric Gomez, president of Golden Boy Promotions, who said: “He [Garcia] is the king of the world. He’s got many to choose from – he has earned it. You’ve got to give him that respect.”
As for the idea of fighting Fundora, which would be two weight divisions north – though Garcia did come in 3.2 lbs overweight for Haney – that would still mark a significant weight differential.
“It is something he threw out there,” Gomez said. “From what I understand, Fundora is not available until late this year. I guess he suffered an injury – so he is not available. It is something we will discuss with him when we sit down.”
Gomez was clear that Garcia now is in the driver’s seat, having shown that he has the ability to generate a lot of revenue and engage fans.
“Whoever he wants, whoever he says he wants to fight, we are going to try and make that fight,” Gomez said.
