Ryan Garcia will wait to fight Gervonta Davis, and no longer fight in January.
Jake Donovan of BoxingScene.com confirmed that the planned stay-busy fight between Ryan Garcia and Mercito Gesta is no longer happening, which was targeted for the end of January.
“Been thinking about it during the time they were figuring out this fight and I feel the fans and everyone who supports boxing have seen these tune-ups,” Garcia stated on his social media platforms. “It’s time that we give the fans what they want. Also, [Davis] requested the tune-up not me so let him handle business. LETS GO.”
It was later confirmed by Donovan that the January date is no longer being looked at by Golden Boy Promotions for Ryan Garcia.
Gervonta Davis fights Hector Luis García on January 7th, on pay-per-view, from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., if successful, the hope is Davis and Garcia will fight in a super-fight in April.
