Ryan Garcia blasted by Julio Cesar Chavez

Ryan Garcia's Lack of Warrior Spirit After Gervonta Davis Fight Criticized by Julio Cesar Chavez

The aftermath continues. After a rowdy and rambunctious weekend that saw Gervonta Davis stop Ryan Garcia with a body shot hurt around the world, even a few days after the fight people are still commenting. One of which is Mexican boxing legend, Julio Cesar Chavez, who watched the fight live, but seemingly was applaud by the lack of guerrero spirit shown by Ryan Garcia.

"It wasn't even a punch,” stated Chavez Sr. to the publication Marca. “Where he hit him, what time he hit him.”

Chavez was known for his never-say die attitude, aggressive style and the folklore of never losing to a Puerto Rican fighter. Chavez’s fury reigned supreme after witnessing the fight, as it is clear that something about Ryan Garcia rubbed Chavez the wrong way.

Ryan Garcia's Quick Recovery After Gervonta Davis Loss: Julio Cesar Chavez Takes Issue

For those, who didn’t see the final sequence of events, Gervonta Davis landed a shot to the liver which to some looked like a glancing blow. That blow caused Garcia to retreat and Davis had a look in his face in which he was going to finish the job - or for that matter the fight. Garcia took a new out of the pain that came in later, and was unable to stand up for the ten count.

"I'm not going to watch him anymore,” said Chavez sternly.

The thing that seemed to bother most people especially legends was Garcia’s ability to stand-up so quickly once the bout was waived off. It was as though Garcia had found a comfort in the loss, something that many of the greats for better or worse couldn’t. Garcia was able to accept losing like a healthy adult, and boxing is the sport in which that might a hindrance rather than a help.

“I don't want to watch any more Ryan Garcia fights,” stated Chavez. “Count me out."
