A stunning turn of events saw veteran boxing reporter, Dan Rafael report via Twitter today that he was informed that Triller is no longer interested or promoting boxing moving forward.
In a very discreet tweet, Rafael acknowledge a boxing fan with a shocking revelation.
"I’m told they are done putting on boxing events,” said the veteran reporter.
Triller Fight Club made headlines for overbidding Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos Jnr., only to default on the purse in which Lopez received 900,000 dollars without even having to throw a punch.
The two years Triller spent in boxing were bizarre. It featured essentially the start of Jake Paul’s rise, the return of Mike Tyson to the ring, a bizarre match-up between Vitor Belfort and Evander Holyfield, as well a hybrid MMA/boxing league that found them getting sued. Triller seemingly will make for an interesting documentary, but the big thing was, that they spent a lot of money to get into the sport, and it didn’t really pay off in the end.
We haven’t heard anything official as of yet, but with no shows since May 14th of this year, and seemingly no events planned in the future. Triller is looking like the MoviePass of boxing fight promotion, a cautionary tale of jumping into an industry head-first.
Sometimes the gamble pays off, sometimes it doesn’t.
