Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez vs. Edwards: Preview, Prediction & Betting Odds

We are just days away from one of the best fights that can be made in the flyweight division. WBO champion Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez (18-0, 11 KOs) will face the IBF champ Sunny Edwards (20-0, 4 KOs) in front of an anticipated ruckus crowd inside the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, AZ. Who will have their hand raised on Saturday night with a title over each shoulder?

‘BAM’ RODRIGUEZ IS EVERYTHING PEOPLE SAY HE IS

It’s hard not to enjoy watching the 23-year-old flyweight champion out of San Antonio, TX. You don’t hear about him getting into any problems outside of the ring, and when he laces up the gloves, Rodriguez is as good as it gets. Rodriguez is the total package, whether it’s his footwork, shift adjustments, or punching power. There are questions, though, coming into this fight as Rodriguez suffered a broken jaw in April against Cristian Gonzalez Hernandez. Reports have been that he was allowed to spar only 30 days ago, which raises questions about whether he is truly ready to return.

Bam is all heart, and regardless of whether his jaw is fully healed, he will go into this fight with one goal: to come out of it as a unified champion. Edwards is tricky and awkward, so Bam will have to work on his body early to set up that straight left hand later in the fight. Rodriguez will adjust throughout the fight, and his pressure will be too much for Edwards.

WILL SUNNY EDWARDS SHINE ON SATURDAY NIGHT?

Edwards is awkward in the ring, but what he does works for him, and it’s gotten him this far. The problem is that he isn’t fighting Andres Campos or Felix Alvarado. Those guys don’t possess the skills Rodriguez has, so Edwards will have to level up for this fight if he wants to win. Edwards must be light on his feet and avoid fighting in close or on the ropes. Bam is not the fighter you want to do that against. Edwards has to keep his distance and hope he can time Bam with a shot as he comes in.
