Alexis Rocha vs. Giovani Santillan: Preview, Prediction & Betting Odds

Golden Boy Promotions returns to Inglewood, CA, as they host a welterweight special attraction live on DAZN. Welterweight contender Alexis Rocha (23-1, 15 KOs) faces Giovani Santillan (31-0, 16 KOs) in a fight that will provide fireworks. Will we see Rocha level up again and get his hand raised in victory, or will it be an upset special by Santillan?

IF ALEXIS ROCHA IS TRULY READY FOR A WORLD TITLE SHOT, HE NEEDS TO STOP SANTILLAN

When you ask anyone at Golden Boy Promotions or Team Rocha if their guy is ready for a title shot, they will tell you confidently that he is. He has shown the ability to enhance his boxing ability after suffering his first loss in 2020 against Rashidi Ellis and has stayed busy enough to keep himself sharp. While he awaits his title shot, he’s taking these fights in between that are always risky, especially against come-forward fighters who are tough. This is where Rocha is with his career, but if he is truly ready for that title shot, he needs to take care of Santillan in an impressive fashion so the public demands it.

Rocha needs to keep this fight at a distance while only keeping it close on limited exchanges. Santillan tends to throw wide shots, and a Rocha uppercut and straight left are there to pick him apart. This will frustrate Santillan and force him to lunge with his shots, allowing Rocha to catch him with a big shot late in the fight. Although Rocha will try to stop Santillan, this fight will head to the scorecards when it’s all said and done.

GIOVANNI SANTILLAN IS COMING FOR IT ALL RIGHT THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR

Santillan isn’t shy about his fighting style, which makes this a perfect matchup on DAZN this weekend. He’s a come-forward fighter who likes to be in close to land his thudding shots. Although Rocha will be the biggest name on his record so far, that doesn’t mean he isn’t ready for this big opportunity.

This is a step-up fight for Santillan, and for him to win, he must use that aggressive style to wear down Rocha in hopes of catching him with a shot late in the fight. It will be hard to get a decision as the B-Side, so he must make Rocha work, and if he can score a knockdown or two throughout the fight, he has a chance to secure the victory.

ALEXIS ROCHA VS. GIOVANI SANTILLAN PREDICTION

This is a tough fight to call. Although the oddsmakers have Rocha as the favorite, Santillan is a tough fighter who will make Rocha work. Rocha is just at another level right now and will earn a decision victory on Saturday night.
