Former middleweight champion Danny Jacobs has stated that he feels rejuvenated ahead of his return to the ring against Shane Mosley Jr. and is planning another run to a world title.
Jacobs, 37, who hasn’t boxed since a split decision loss to John Ryder back in 2022, is set to face Mosley on the undercard of the boxing match between MMA stars Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal on July 6 in Anaheim, California.
Jacobs claims he feels rejuvenated ahead of his ring return and is planning a run towards a third world title, after holding the WBO and IBF titles previously.
“I can’t wait to get back in the ring and do what I love most,” Jacobs told DAZN. “I’ve been training, and I feel rejuvenated and ready to make another run to the top. This is a great opportunity on a big platform as the co-main event to Diaz vs. Masvidal, and I’m coming to make the most of it. I’ve got a great opponent, but don’t blink, because I’m preparing to end this fight in style.”
Mosley is the son of boxing legend and former three-weight champion Shane Mosley, who took on the likes of Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. before hanging up his gloves in 2016. Although the younger Mosley has yet to live up to his father’s name, he has a win over Gabe Rosado. Jacobs has presented himself as the toughest opponent Mosley Jr. has faced, but the latter is relishing the opportunity of facing a fighter of Jacobs’ stature.
“I am blessed and grateful for this opportunity,” Mosley said. “It means a lot to be fighting on such a big event, and it’s even more motivating to be going up against a legend in the sport. I’m thankful to Golden Boy and my whole team for making this possible.”
