Regis Questions If Teofimo Lopez’ Father Should Be His Coach

Teofimo Lopez had a rise unlike any other modern fighter, but he has had trouble equaling it, after his great win over Vasiliy Lomachenko.

After a narrow split-decision win over Sandor Martin, many fighters have called out Lopez, and been critical. The best 140 lbs. fighter in my eyes, Regis Prograis, is yet another one.

“I think that he got caught up in his own hype and his dad got caught up in the hype,” said Prograis when speaking exclusively with BoxingScene.com. “I really think he needs to get rid of his daddy. It seems like his dad is living through his son and that’s never good because they put so much pressure on you. He needs to change his team up.”

In theory, Teofimo Lopez is the next man up for Prograis, after Prograis and Jose Ramirez fight for the WBC super lightweight title, but this is boxing, and anything can happen.

“Mentally he’s crumbling. You can just tell, mentally he’s crumbling.”
