The news hit yesterday that highly touted super middleweight prospect Isaiah Steen will be elevated to the main event spot on Friday, October 21 live on SHOWTIME at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT in the latest edition of SHOBOX: The New Generation, against Sena Agbeko taking place at ally’s Atlantic City Casino and Resort.
The original headliner light heavyweight prospect Ali Izmailov withdrew from his main event with Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic for health reasons.
We spoke to spoke exclusively to Steen’s camp about this announcement.
"After 15 months, it feels good to get back into the ring. Despite the adversity I’ve faced, I’ve stayed physically and mentally ready. I’d like to thank 4 Champs Promotions, and Reed Cook for working tirelessly to find me a formidable opponent and believing in my abilities,” said head coach Otha Jones III. “Keeping Steen around the right people and staying ready for whatever comes his way has enabled the team to be prepared. Now we're prepared to show the boxing world, he is the best fighter at 168lbs.”
This past Friday in Toledo, Ohio, a high school football game was stopped due to extreme violence as a shooting took place that uprooted the competition for the young people competing. This is a big motivation for Steen heading into the fight.
“Not just do the kids in Soul City Boxing Gym look up to Isaiah, a lot of the kids in the community see him as a superhero,” said his co-trainer Roshawn Jones. “This is one of those moments that Isaiah has been waiting for and will allow him to make a case for being rated as a top-15 super middleweight in the division, and winning a world title.”
This will be Steen’s second-time headlining ShoBox: The Next Generation as his previous fight was against world title contender Kalvin Henderson, in which he won. Henderson would go on from that loss to get a world title shot against David Morrell on Showtime. The half-brother of Charles Conwell, Steen, is ready to make a statement.
“I am ready,” said Steen better known in the gym by his nickname "Z-Wop". “This is the fight I have been waiting for, this fight will change my life."
