ProBox Exclusive: Floyd Schofield Interview “I Want Isaac Cruz”

Recent Golden Boy Promotions signee, Floyd Schofield is someone to keep an eye on. His power at 135 lbs. is beyond real, and he is already calling out the top of the division.

“We want to fight all the champions, but they’re making us go through these little steps first, so I told [Floyd Schofield Jr] he’s got to make a statement,” said Floyd Schofield Sr., the father, and trainer of his son, Floyd Schofield Jr. “We got to make a statement to get that [Isaac] Cruz fight!”

At 11-0, with 9 wins by knockout, Schofield signed with Golden Boy Promotions officially prior to his previous bout in August, which was a fifth-round stoppage of Rodrigo Guerrero. Schofield returns Thursday night, October 20th, at the Fantasy Springs Casino and Resort in Indio, California, to face popular opponent Daniel “Bad Boy” Rosas, who last fought former world title contender Lamont Roach Jr, and. was stopped in two rounds.

“Someone is going to go to sleep in under three rounds and it is not me,” said Floyd Schofield, about his upcoming bout on Thursday night available on DAZN.

Golden Boy Promotions has had a run of developing good fighters into world-level fighters from Canelo Alvarez to recently Ryan Garcia and Vergil Ortiz Jr., the promotion might not have the most fight dates, but when they get behind a fighter - they can move them. Schofield explained why he signed with Golden Boy.

“I thought it was the best option for me because Oscar [De La Hoya] hit me up personally, no other promoter did that,” explained Schofield, who is nicknamed “Kid Austin”. “…on top of that, they gave me everything I wanted in the contract.”

His father, Floyd Schofield Sr. furthered that he always wanted to sign with Golden Boy Promotions.

“My plan was to always go with Golden Boy,” said Floyd Schofield Sr.. “Because they have two legends there that know boxing and understand boxing, and can help him hands-on, to groom him into the fighter I need him to become.”

The excitement is high around Schofield’s main event debut on DAZN this Thursday night as many believe he is a future world champion and one of the most exciting prospects in the sport of boxing.
