Opetaia unimpressed with Okolie’s skills

Current IBF Cruiserweight world champion has sent a scathing assessment of Lawrence Okolie’s latest performance.

The WBO belt holder (19-0, 14 KOs) won a wide decision against David Light this past Saturday in Manchester in his first fight in over a year. The home crowd booed the the 2016 Olympian as the fight drew to its conclusion despite a solid performance under new trainer Sugar Hill Steward.

Opetaia tweeted immediately after Okolie’s victory “Grass growing, paint drying, Okolie boxing,” in an attempt to possibly goad his rival. “Just a reminder of who’s the main man in the division” Opetaia added with a picture of his IBF and Ring Magazine titles.

The Australian southpaw captured his titles against the reigning king of the division, Mairis Briedis, last summer on the Gold Coast, breaking his jaw twice in the process of a 12 round win.

Opetaia has mandatories on the horizon. Mateusz Masternak in line to fight for his IBF belt, the first defence due to take place some point this summer. The IBF will officially order the fight on April 1, leaving 90 days to get everything over line and both men in the ring.
