The winner of Friday night’s vacant WBO super featherweight world title fight between Emanuel Navarrete and Liam Wilson will face Oscar Valdez, or at least that seems to be the plan if you hear it from Top Rank CEO Bob Arum.
“A hundred percent. Not even a question. That’s the plan,” Arum said. “Whoever wins, there’s an understanding that they’ll fight Valdez.”
Originally, the bout taking place in Glendale, Arizona was supposed to between Navarrete and Oscar Valdez, but an injury pulled Valdez from the bout.
“It happens,” Arum said. “He’s a really dedicated athlete. He doesn’t carouse around and so forth. But sometimes your body betrays you, and that’s been the case with Oscar. We’ll have to see. He’s a great talent. He’ll get healed and we’ll give him his shot.”
Navarrete will take on Liam Wilson as a part of a three-fight broadcast, which begins at 10 p.m. ET / 7 PM PST on ESPN, this Friday, February 3rd.
