Mikaela Mayer Faces New Opponent Following Linardatou Refused Licence By BBBofC

Mikaela Mayer (17-1,5KOs) has had a late change of opponent after Christina Linardatou was refused to be licenced by the BBBofC. The reasoning given by the BBBofC is due to issues regarding Linardatou’s pre-fight eye exam, which prevented the IBF/WBO super-featherweight from weighing in against Mayer.

Lucy Wildheart (10-1, 1KOs) has agreed to step in and face Mayer, of which the contest will see the WBC interim lightweight title as chief support to Joe Joyce’s heavyweight title fight with Zhilei Zhang at the Copper Box Arena, London.

Mayer will be her lightweight debut following a fruitful spell at super-featherweight. She fights for the first time following her narrow defeat to Alycia Baumgardner last October in London, which saw her lose the WBO & IBF world super-featherweight title in the process.

Mayer had been chasing a rematch with Baumgardner following her defeat last year. However, she decided to move up to the lightweight division once it had become clear that the possibility was extremely slim.

Wildheart is on a five-fight winning streak following a 2019 defeat to Estelle Mossely via unanimous decision.
