In a WBA lightweight eliminator, we might have seen the birth of a star as Frank “The Ghost” Martin, trained by Derrick James picked up a twelve-round unanimous decision over Michel “La Zarza Ali” Rivera on Saturday night at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
The numbers told the tale of the fight as Frank Martin landed nearly three times as much landing 174 to Rivera 67 punches over the course of twelve rounds. Frank Martin's defense was exceptional as Rivera only landed 7% of his jabs, despite throwing more jabs than Martin.
Martin dropped Rivera in round seven and won every round seemingly.
The judges saw the bout as 117-110, 118-109, 120-107, all for Martin.
In an IBF super middleweight eliminator, unbeaten Vladimir Shishkin got a 12-round decision over former IBF champion José Uzcátegui, as the judges scored it 115-113, 117-111, 117-111 for Uzcategui.
In an IBF bantamweight eliminator, Vincent Astrolabio picked up a sixth-round knockout over Nikolai Potapov. The time of the stoppage was 1:26.
