Luis Alberto Lopez vs. Michael Conlan Rumored For SSE Arena

Rumors are afloat that the IBF featherweight champion Luis Alberto Lopez will head overseas once again as he looks to defend his world title against Michael Conlan in Belfast, at least according to Jamie Conlan.

Jamie Conlan spoke to the Irish News recently, and stated that the rumored bout could take lace in May at the SSEE Arena or in June at Falls Park.

“We're in negotiations,” Jamie Conlan said when speaking with the Irish News. “There are a lot of moving parts but Lopez and Michael is the fight that we're working towards and we're close to making and it's looking more than likely that Belfast will be the place for the fight.”

Lopez defeated Josh Warrington to win his world title in his last fight, and most expected him to fight Conlan in April, around the time of St. Patrick’s Day.

“Stylistically for Michael it's a really tough fight but there are no easy fights for titles. Obviously all the talk last year after Michael and Leigh Wood was a rematch but it never materialized, and this is the route that has been presented to us now,” said Conlan. “Michael learned a lot from the Wood fight, both in the ring and outside the ring.”

It will be interesting when and where this world title fight takes place as it is a very interesting stylistic clash.
