Boxing has a loaded lineup on Saturday, and one of those fights will take place live on ESPN+ from the SSE Arena in Belfast, Ireland. IBF featherweight champion Luis Alberto Lopez (27-2, 15 KOs) takes on 31-year-old Michael Conlan (18-1, 9 KOs). This fight will have plenty of interested parties as a future fight with the likes of Ruben Villa, Josh Warrington, and Joet Gonzalez waiting in the winds.
Conlan has had an interesting career, as there were high expectations from him coming out of the Olympics, but he never seemed to reach another talent level and has plateaued in the last few years. He is now 31, and although this will not be his last title opportunity, a loss in this fight can set him back a bit. This will be Conlan’s first fight in 2023, and he looks to make it count by winning the IBF crown.
Lopez hit the mainstream scene when he handed Gabriel Flores Jr. his first loss. After that, he racked up some wins and defeated Josh Warrington via a razor-thin decision. The 29-year-old Lopez will now look to continue his road warrior mentality as he faces Conlan with an opportunity to set himself up for a huge unification later this year if he is successful.
