Kieran Molloy: Working with Bob Arum and Conlan Boxing ahead of Galway homecoming

Irish prospect Kieran Molloy heads back home this weekend to headline in his beloved Galway. The welterweight southpaw turned professional last year amassing a record of 4-0 (3 KOs) since signing professional terms with Bob Arum’s Top Rank and Conlan Boxing.

The 24-year-old (4-0, 3 KOs) finds himself honing his skills in at the Loughborough Institute of Sport, under the tutelage of fast rising trainer, Angel Fernandez. Molloy spoke exclusively to ProBox TV News ahead of his Irish debut with Fernando Mosquera on April 21 live on ESPN+.

“Obviously we did have to put boxing on hold in Ireland for a bit.” Molloy said. “But look, boxing is booming in Ireland right now. Katie Taylor has her homecoming and Micheal Conlan has his word title fight against [Luis Alberto] Lopez coming up next month. I saw a show on in Waterford, one in Dublin and now I have my own first headlined show in Galway. Boxing has always been big up in Belfast, but now we can really grow something here on the whole of Ireland.

Molloy has built an illustrious backroom staff to help him along his professional journey. Currently managed by Jamie and Michael Conlan and promoted by Top Rank, he is also under the watchful eye of Angel Fernandez, training with the likes of Richard Riakporhe, Frazer Clarke and Sergio Garcia.

“A year-and-a-half ago when I turned professional I wanted to find myself the right team.” Molloy continued. “I wanted world class management, world class promotion and most importantly a world class coach. I did go around for a few trials in the UK and back home in Ireland, but once I came down here to Loughborough, it has just been amazing working with all the boys. It was a very easy decision for me to come here.

“It was difficult me moving to a different country at such a young age. But I’ve fitted in straight away and they have made me fell right at home here. It’s a competitive this gym, we all want to the best here. It’s a state of the art facility, we have everything we need here. But you do need the fundamentals when it’s just you in the ring, Angel is a great fundamental coach. He’s got all the boxes ticked for our styles.”

Molloy has everything in line to get very far in the sport, with veteran promoter Bob Arum leading the charge.

“I’m with Top Rank which is one of the best promotional companies int he world.” He added. “It’s fantastic. I also have Michael and Jamie Conlan as my managers, we’ve got a great relationship. This is what I always wanted, a great team. To be working with Top Rank and Bob Arum is stuff you dream about as a kid.”
