Kell Brook Targets “One More Fight” According To Shalom

Kell Brook is targeting a return to the boxing ring according to promoter Ben Shalom of Boxxer after Brook drew the curtain on his career following a career-defining victory over career-long rival, Amir Khan in February of 2022. The dominating performance saw Kell secure a sixth-round stoppage and announced his retirement in the ring following the victory.

In recent weeks, Kell has openly admitted to struggling with retirement along with his mental health. A recent tabloid online article had shown a video of Kell taking a white substance which raised fears for Brook's well-being. Brook has since apologized for his actions and is seeking help for his mental health and admitted to finding retirement “really hard”.

Ben Shalom when speaking to Id Boxing said that he feels that Kell wants one more fight and does not want the video of Kell’s struggles to be a lasting memory for Kell’s supporters.

“I know Kell Brook wants to fight again. He doesn’t want that [the video] to be his lasting memory, and I’ve spoken already on that. But he always wanted one more fight. It has to be the right fight.”

"I think to be honest 154 for Kell is probably the right weight for him. Liam Smith obviously has fought there all his career, so that’s definitely a possibility.”

Ben spoke about the possibility of Kell facing Liam Smith at 154 lbs however those comments came just before Chris Eubank Jr had activated his rematch clause to fight Liam Smith following his January stoppage defeat. There has always been speculation that Brook & Smith could face each other at some point during their careers and had been previously sparring partners on multiple occasions and enjoyed a friendly rivalry.

However, it is now evident that Shalom’s plans of seeing Brook & Smith take to the ring may have to be postponed pending the outcome of the all-but-certain rematch. Furthermore, Smith had also indicated his desire to also remain at middleweight post-fight following his victory over Eubank Jr.
