Kalle Sauerland Aiming To Seal Golovkin Fight For Eubank Jr

Kalle Sauerland, the head promoter for Wasserman Boxing has had a rough fortnight following his promotional charge’s late collapse of an all-British PPV showdown with Conor Benn. Chris Eubank Jr despite the cancellation of the Eubank-Benn encounter due to one confirmed failed test on behalf of Conor has seen his stock rise within the boxing world due to his professionalism with his social media post with charisma and filming himself making the agreed weight despite the fight collapsing at the 11th hour which was scheduled for October 8th. The trial and tribulations of Conor Benn are still yet to be fully known with a full investigation to be undertaken by UKAD (United Kingdom Anti-Doping Agency) along with the British Boxing Board of Control. Kalle, along with co-promoter of the cancelled show Eddie Hearn, has come under scrutiny for trying to press ahead with the contest despite the failed VADA testing even when the BBBofC refused to sanction the event as a whole. Thankfully the right call was made to postpone the fight pending investigations into Conor’s failed test. This however has left Eubank Jr with some time on his hands and left searching for an opponent.

Kalle Sauerland has confirmed that an opponent is being searched with Billy Joe Saunders and Kell Brook being mentioned by Kalle but has confirmed that the ideal choice would be Gennady Golovkin in a direct challenge for the IBF, WBA (Super World) and IBO world middleweight titles despite Golovkin being recently defeated by Canelo Alvarez in a challenge for the undisputed super-middleweight title (WBC,WBA,WBO,IBF).

Speaking to IFLTV, Kalle also confirmed that the investigation into the Conor Benn fiasco will not halt the exploration into an opponent for Eubank Jr.

“We’re not waiting around at all,” Sauerland told iFL TV. “Putting plans in place for scenarios. At the same time, of course, we’re looking at this investigation that I believe was already underway.”

“Billy Joe, of course, next year, is a name,” Sauerland said. “Our number one target, as everyone knows, is Golovkin for 2023. All those fights are very make-able. Saw Kell Brook up here at the gym the other day … I never know if that’s real or not. We’ve been down that road before. He looked like he needs to shift a bit of weight. Saw somewhere he might be ready in February or March. Junior will be out sooner than that.”

“We want the big fights,” Sauerland reiterated. “And the big fights, like I said, the top of the pecking order is Golovkin. It always has been, always will. But there are other big fights that don’t involve a belt. We’ve got lots of options. The good thing is it’s not a situation where there’s no options — there’s loads of options. We’ll just work out what the best ones are for Junior."
