The vacant WBC 140 lbs world title will be on the line as Jose “Chon” Zepeda and Regis Prograis will face each other for one of the biggest prizes in all of the sport, on what is now being touted as a November 26th date.
Jake Donovan of BoxingScene.com, reported that Marination Promotions has set aside a date of November 26th, no venue has been picked, but don’t be surprised if it ends up on the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. The bout is expected to be on pay-per-view, as this will be the biggest event held by MarvNation- Promotions in their career as an entity.
Last month, August 30th, Marvin Rodriguez, the CEO of MarvNation Promotions, shocked the world by outbidding TGB Promotions by nearly doubling their purse bid. The smaller Los Angeles, California-based promotion bid 2.4 million dollars, whereas TGB Promotions be $1,200,600 for the fight.
The fear from fight fans who wanted to see a great fight, between Prograis vs. Zepeda was that this could be Triller 2.0, meaning that it could put the division on hold as MarvNation Promotions had never held an event to this magnitude. The fact that we now have a date, and a tentative venue is exciting because it means the 140 lbs division can move forward, and not be stuck in a log jam, as it is one of the best divisions in the sport.
The belt is now vacant because Josh Taylor not facing enforcing his mandatory against Jose Zepeda. Zepeda was originally set to face Jose Ramirez, but due to personal reasons, Regis Prograis will replace Jose Ramirez.
