John Edwardson and Jazza Dickens discuss American Adventure

Liverpool duo John Edwardson and Jazza Dickens join me via video call from Delary Beach moments after a second weigh-in as many days. Edwardson (4-0) embarks on his American debut guided on this trip by former world title challenger Jazza Dickens.

“John is long time friend of mine, so I’ve been trying to help get him out. I spoke with Chris Glover about getting a fight in the States as he is out here doing so well out here, he’s pulled it out the bag for us.” Dickens said on the mini American adventure that was taking place.

Edwardson squares off with Rafael Morel (1-6-1) tomorrow night in Florida, an American debut which was infact meant to have taken place last night in Georgia.

“He didn’t turn up. We got to the weigh-in and he just didn’t show up!” Edwardson said on his cancelled bout with Andrew Cain. “So we drove two hours, got on a plane and we just weighed in and I’m set for my American debut.” Grinning from ear-to-ear the Liverpudlian continued “The matchmaker really pulled it out of the bag, he found me a slot on another show. Just having something to eat now so I’m in a pretty good mood.”

Despite the less than ideal preparations Dickens and Edwardson were in high spirits ahead of a change in direction for the undefeated mans career.

“We couldn’t really get John a slot in the UK. The small hall circuit is dwindling a little, I spoke to some friend and we are going to have a crack out here.” Said Dickens.

The former British champion continued “It’s been a bit of a crazy trip, but we’ve enjoyed it strangely enough. It happened quite quickly, we didn’t have much time to think about it. We’ve got a good group, John is a strong character and doesn’t take himself too seriously. We have just embraced the experience.”
