Joey Spencer burst onto the boxing scene with a ton of hype, a great amateur pedigree, and a ton of famous fighters co-signing him, such as Andre Berto.
Despite winning the Premier Boxing Champions award for Prospect of the Year in 2019, Spencer has seen both COVID, and a bit of stagnation halt his forward progress over the past two years. Yet, that should change after his one-sided win over Kevin Salgado on the FOX prelim fight prior to the Andy Ruiz vs. Luis Ortiz PPV fight.
Spencer looked as good as ever, and flashed all the promise that had him labeled as one of the pillars of the foundation for Premier Boxing Champions future.
“Tony Harrison, Tim Tszyu, Erickson Lubin and Sebastian Fundora are all guys I want to fight,” said Spencer. “I want to face the best. There's one champion in the division and we have to fight each other to get to him."
The 22-year-old fighter, who proudly calls himself “The Small-Town Soldier” landed 79 to 54 edge in punches landed to victory, in the toughest fight of his career on paper.
The judges saw the bout all for Spencer as two judges had it 99-91 and 100-90.
