Joe Joyce has weighed in nearly one whole stone lighter ahead of his clash with fellow Olympic silver medalist Zhilei Zhang tomorrow night at the Copperbox Arena, London.
China’s Zhang (24-1-1, 19 KOs) came to weigh in first as the challenger on away soil, hitting the scales at 19st 12lbs. Almost identical to the weight of his previous two fights with Filip Hrgovic and Scott Alexander.
Putney’s Joyce (15-0, 14 KOs) scaled in at 18st 4lbs. Nearly exact to his weight against Daniel Dubois in 2020, but 13lbs lighter than in his last fight against Joseph Parker. Joyce gives an incredible 22lbs weight advantage to his competitor tomorrow night.
“I had an early camp in Vegas, like a pre-camp.” Joyce said to Dev Sahni after the official weigh-in. “I’ve been very disciplined with my diet and stuff. Plenty of good training with [Larry] Wade over there and [Ismael] Salas. I’ve had a long camp and it’s been good. I’m feeling really good and fit, my abs are popping through, I’m ready to fight now. I will be more mobile and agile, but I will still be coming with the power and endurance, punch output and toughness, you know.”
