Joe Gallagher: Offer Needs To Be Better For Claressa Shields Fight

Renown Trainer and Manager in British Boxing, Joe Gallagher, has emphasised that any offer that Claressa Shields's promoter (Dmitriy Salita) and manager (Mark Taffett) makes needs to be improved upon before unified female super-welterweight, Natasha Jonas, considers stepping in with Shields. Speculation has been potent recently regarding a contest between three-weight (two undisputed) world champion Shields and unified super-welterweight champion, Jonas.

Shields (13-0) last October defeated Savannah Marshall in a thriller at London's O2 arena to add the WBO crown to her WBC, WBA & IBF titles to become undisputed at 160lbs, following her victories over Canadian Marie Eve Dicaire in 2021 (to become 154lb undisputed) & Ema Kozin in returning to the middleweight division defending her WBC, IBF & WBA titles.

Natasha Jonas(13-2-1), former Olympian and current IBF, WBC & WBO super welterweight champion, is on a rich reign of form. Jonas, in 2022, defeated Chris Namus, Patricia Berghult & Dicaire in consecutive fights to rule the roost at super-welterweight. This is despite rival Terri Harper, holding the WBA world title, fighting Cecilia Braekhus on May 20th in Dublin on the Katie Taylor vs Chantelle Cameron undercard.

Gallagher, who trains and is the licenced manager of Jonas, revealed that an offer was made to Jonas to face the formidable Shields. However, that offer needs to be increased significantly when speaking to sky sports regarding the negotiations.
