Jermall Charlo wouldn’t “quit fucking with” Caleb Plant, the super middleweight boxer said this week, leading him to slap his rival last month in Las Vegas.
Plant was referring to a viral backstage incident at the T-Mobile Arena in which he could be seen striking Charlo on camera during the historic welterweight championship showdown between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr.
The commotion spilled outside the venue with a brawl involving the partners of both Charlo brothers Jermall and Jermell.
“A man has got a right to defend himself,” said Plant in an Instagram Live. “Grown man touch another grown man in his face, pulling on his beard real hard, and you know, I’ve got the decency to tell you not to do that again and I don’t smash on you right there.”
Plant alleges Charlo called him “a bitch-ass white boy.”
He added: “Look at you getting all shook like a bitch-ass white boy would.”
Charlo, Plant said, then grabbed his face “even harder” after he told him not to.
“I got my wife standing right behind me and I’m in a room full of my peers. I mean, what do you do? You’re making it real hard on a guy.”
He later added: “I told him knock that sh!t off, but he wouldn’t listen. I’m tryna to be left the f--- alone, I know that.”
Plant is seeking a comeback opponent after losing a valiant 12-round decision to David Benavidez at one of the year’s best events in March.
ProBox TV understands through a source close to both fighters that such a match-up would be looked on favorably by Premier Boxing Champions, yet it is unclear if that would happen next.
Jermall’s brother Jermell, meanwhile, competes next month in the next big Las Vegas fight as he challenges Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at 168-pounds.
