Jaron Ennis targeting Spence-Crawford winner following win over Villa

Jaron Ennis has put out a list of targets he wishes to face before the end of the year following his tenth-round stoppage of Roiman Villa at Broadwalk Hall, NJ.

Ennis produced a left-right finish in the tenth to send a very pro-Ennis crowd into raptures following the contest, which saw the unbeaten mandatory challenger to the winner of the upcoming Crawford-Spence encounter slated for July 29 into an ideal position to be the next man in line to challenge for the welterweight world titles.

Post-fight, Jaron thought he put in a good showing but conceded that there is room for improvement and thought he still took too many shots when trying to force the action while praising Villa for stepping up to face him.

“My performance was good; I could have listened to my corner a little more.

“My dad wanted me to throw more body shots and give him more angles and not stand in front of him. I was getting hit with shots I wasn’t supposed to get hit with. I appreciate Villa taking this fight. Hats off to him and his family. I appreciate him for coming in and being a warrior.”

“Boots,” said that in the tenth round, just before the stoppage, he knew that he had Villa hurt immediately after throwing the left hand, which rocked his opponent. It was then he knew if he thew a follow-up right hand that he was confident that he would see the fight waved off there and then.

“I hit him with a big left hand, and I knew he was going down,” said Ennis. “So I was waiting for the left shot, and I threw a hook, and I knew he was going, so I just threw one more, and that was it. I knew they were going to stop it.”

When asked by broadcaster Showtime, Ennis didn’t shy away from throwing in as many names as he could muster but is ultimately seeking to face the winner of Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr, who fought for the undisputed world welterweight titles last this month in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I want the winner of Errol Spence and Terence Crawford,” said Ennis. “Let’s make it happen. I’ll take on Eimantas Stanionis in a heartbeat. I want to get into the ring one more time before the end of the year to make it three fights. Stanionis, Keith Thurman, Yordenis Ugas, all the top guys out there. Let’s make these fights happen.”
