It seems like boxing is on a streak of homecomings, and this Saturday, live on ESPN, will continue in that direction. Toledo native Jared ‘Big Baby’ Anderson (14-0, 14 KOs) will return home to face former heavyweight champion Charles Martin (29-3-1, 26 KOs). The fight takes place at the Huntington Center in Toledo, OH, and all eyes will be on what Top Rank calls “The next great American heavyweight.”
Anderson continues to make quick work of his opponents as he climbs the heavyweight rankings. He stopped George Arias (18-1, 7 KOs) in just three rounds earlier this year and was due to fight Zhan Kossobutskiy (19-0, 18 KOs), but he was replaced at the last minute due to Kossobutskiy being unable to secure a visa in time. Earlier this week, TR released a video clip of Anderson sharing an emotional moment with Boxing Hall of Famer Roy Jones Jr., which has left fans to wonder if the pressure is starting to get to the 23-year-old heavyweight. Martin was once the IBF heavyweight champion in 2016 until he lost the title to Anthony Joshua (25-3, 22 KOs). Since then, he has stayed busy but has had mediocre performances. Last year, Martin lost to Luis Ortiz but then defeated Devin Vargas in September. Does Martin, at 37, have anything left to put up a good fight against Anderson in Toledo, OH?
