Jake Paul to be ranked by WBC if he defeats Fury

Jake Paul To Be Given WBC Ranking If He Defeats Tommy Fury

Jake Paul will be given a WBC cruiserweight world rating if he defeats Tommy Fury on the 26th of February in Saudi Arabia.  The confirmation of the WBC’s intention was given by Mauricio Sulaiman, the president of the World Boxing Council.

Jake has built up an unbeaten professional record of six wins against MMA fighters in boxing contests and Tommy Fury will be the first professional boxer he has faced in his career. Fury himself is unbeaten in eight contests.  Paul could have received a WBC ranking last year if his scheduled fight against Hasim Rahman Jr had gone ahead. However, that fight was curtailed along with the whole event due to Hasim Rahman Jr being withdrawn by his team over fears over his ability to make the cruiserweight weight limit.

Sulaiman released a statement when his organisation confirmed the WBC’s intention stating that Jake will not be discriminated against and deserves every opportunity like any other boxer

"Jake Paul has been close to the WBC for several years, starting with the first event promoted in the UK when his brother, Logan, fought KSI. On that night Jake won the WBC amateur belt in the undercard fights," Sulaiman said to Sky Sports.

"Jake has dedication and respect to the sport and the WBC will not tolerate discrimination against anyone. He deserves the opportunities that any other boxer has. He demonstrated punching power and improved skills as well as a solid chin. Tommy Fury represents a clear challenge to Paul in a battle of two undefeated professional boxers."

Jake himself is confident that he will become a world champion day and become a dominant champion in recent interviews over the past year. (quote used from boxingscene.com)

"I want to become a world champion. I'm going to become a world champion, and these fights are all just stepping stones to get there. I'm slowly improving," Paul said.

"I've sparred against world champions and done phenomenal against them, so who knows what can happen in two to three years from now when I go into my athletic prime? I'm starting to really, really get this sport and all aspects of it.

"It's really actually scary what could possibly happen. I think not only will I become a world champion, I think I will be a dominant world champion and knock someone out for the belt."
