Jake Paul: All Respect To Tommy Fury

Jake Paul suffered defeat for the first time as a fighter in Saudi Arabia, losing his anticipated pay-per-view showdown with Tommy Fury under the lights of the desert. Jake who is a brash character with bravado, a huge social media presence and a boxing promoter in his own right, failed to live up to his pre-fight predictions. Paul was expecting to knockout Fury (so was Tommy) but failed ultimately despite scoring a final-round knockdown to set up a grandstand finish. However, Jake came up short on two of the judges score cards with 76-73 verdicts in favour of Fury against his 75-74 verdict by another.

A maiden defeat often makes or breaks fighters of the noble art in mental strength to return driven and motivated to right the wrongs of a defeat. Some achieve right the wrongs of the past and some fall by the wayside. Jake, meanwhile, is aiming to exercise the rematch clause in his bout agreement with Fury. He insists that he should be judged by his losses and not by his wins while insisting that he thought he did enough to win the bout. Humble in his immediate post-fight thoughts ensured he gave Tommy respect following his defeat.

“All respect to Tommy. He won. Don’t judge me by my wins. Judge me by my losses. I’ll come back. I think we deserve that rematch. It was a great fight. It was a close fight. I don’t know if I agree with the judges. I got a 10-8 round twice. So, it is what it is. I’ve already won in life, man. I’ve already won in every single way. I have an amazing family. Amazing friends. Amazing work ethic. I’ve made it farther than I ever thought I would," Paul said.
