We have a fight: Munguia, Ryder make weight for Saturday showdown

PHOENIX: It's official — we have a fight for Saturday at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, as headline boxers Jaime Munguia and John Ryder both make weight ahead of the Golden Boy Promotions show live on DAZN.

First onto the scales was the challenger from Britain, Ryder, who weighed 167.8-pounds — comfortably under the super middleweight limit.

Ryder told ProBox TV and other reporters last week that a dream fight of his is to rematch Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Should he spring the upset Saturday against Munguia, he would make one giant step toward that goal but still arguably fall short of landing on Canelo's radar.

Even the 38-fight veteran's promoter Eddie Hearn, the group chairman for UK sports firm Matchroom, told ProBox TV this week as much, however, Hearn did say that victory should secure him another big bout.

Hearn even has his eyes on fights against David Benavidez and Caleb Plant, both of Premier Boxing Champions, he told us.

Next onto the scales was Munguia, who also weighed 167.8-pounds.

Canelo has been a constant theme throughout the promotion for this event as Munguia and his team, too, have their crosshairs on Alvarez and how they can best secure that bout for themselves.

Victory over Ryder, particularly if it were in impressive fashion, could boost their chances of luring Canelo into the ring.
