Jack Catterall Calls Out Regis Prograis For WBC World Title Tilt & Doubts That He Will Ever Face Taylor Again

Jack Catterall is seeking just to get on with his career which has seen undisputed title glory slip through his fingers due to controversial scoring in February 2022 against Josh Taylor. A moment which should have crowned a new king in the form of Jack according to many within the industry has unravelled to a year of delays, insults and at times delusions from Josh Taylor & ultimately frustrations of a highly anticipated rematch taking place. Jack now seriously doubts if a rematch will ever happen following news that the former undisputed 140lb champion is set to face Teofimo Lopez on May 27th in Edinburgh.

Catterall was pretty much all set to fight Taylor next month for the WBO and Ring Magazine titles (Taylor had dropped the WBC, WBA & IBF Titles) however another injury to Taylor had pushed that back even further which had seen Catterall added to Boxxer’s March 25th promotion in Manchester in a way to keep active.

However, with Taylor now virtually all set to fight Lopez, Jack is now just seeking to move on with his career.

“You know what it is, we was obviously meant to fight Josh, November, December, February, March, and I’m done waiting for it now,” Catterall told iD Boxing. “You have seen this morning the reports of Taylor-Teofimo, they’re talking about fighting. So we kind of got the March 25th date as a keep-busy, active date."

“I’m not convinced the Josh fight is going to happen now. He’s pulled out more than once.”

Jack is still seeking his date with destiny at the big table and is wanting to challenge the recently crowned WBC world champion Regis Prograis which he claims would be an easy fight to get signed and complete.

“I wanted the Josh fight. I believe I beat Josh and it would have been nice to put that to bed. That’s out of the question now. I want the biggest fights possible. I talked about it the last couple of weeks. I want the biggest fights possible."

“I want the Regis Prograis fight. In my opinion, we both beat Josh, so we have that in common. And it’s an easy fight to be made. That’s the fight that I want now. Regis is up for the fight and it’s a great fight. We’ll see how it unfolds [in] the next couple of weeks.”
