Daniel Dubois says Tyson Fury’s collapsed clash with Oleksandr Usyk could result in “the chance of a lifetime” for him.
Dubois is now leading the way as the man most likely to face the Ukrainian hero next and he told BT Sport: “Do I want it or not? I want it, and I want to take it with both hands, knock him [Usyk] out and become world champion. That’s my dream.”
Dubois last boxed in December, overcoming a debilitating knee injury to stop South African Kevin Lerena. Dubois said it showed his heart and fortitude
“I want to come back stronger and shock the whole world. This is what it’s about,” Dubois added. “More hard work, more blood sweat and tears, I want this opportunity, I want to knock him out and do whatever it takes to win.”
While the boxing world felt it missed out on Fury-Usyk as talks imploded, Dubois is ready to seize his golden ticket.
“Fight Usyk, become world champion and the rest is history,” Dubois added. “I have to be 100 per cent level headed and stay on my game. We saw the fights [between Usyk and Anthony Joshua] and AJ looked a bit awkward at times but you look at [Dereck] Chisora’s effort [against Usyk] and it looked better and I’m not just saying that, I’m sure everybody could see that. But from Chisora’s standpoint he pushes himself forwards and that’s how you need to fight him, like a man possessed, and I’m willing to do that. I need to win by any means necessary but by a knockout. For me, that’s how the fight has to end, by a KO. I want to put on a devastating performance if we get it on and shock the world. I want to win in devastating fashion and end the reign of Usyk.”
