On a special Tuesday night fight card, former WBO super featherweight Jamel ‘Semper Fi’ Herring (23-4, 11 KOs) returns from an eighteen-month layoff to face undefeated prospect Nicholas Molina (13-0, 5 KOs) live on DAZN from the Edison Ballroom in New York City. The event is dedicated to military veterans, and part of the proceeds will go to various organizations. This upcoming weekend is Veterans Day and the Marine Corps Birthday, so Herring, a Marine veteran, will be fighting in honor of those who served and continue to serve in the military.
The 38-year-old Herring was calling fights for Top Rank after his last fight, which was a unanimous decision loss to Jamaine Ortiz. Although Herring was unsure about ever returning, he caught the bug to fight again with the motivation of becoming a two-time champion. The super featherweight division has some makeable fights for Herring, who can be competitive against the current champions if he can return to his championship form. This fight will show him where he is with boxing and if he should continue or hang up the gloves for good.
Molina is a 24-year-old fighter from Massachusetts with no notable names on his BoxRec, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be competitive in this eight-round fight. Herring will be the biggest name he’s faced. While he’s coming off a July unanimous decision victory over Aldimar Silva, Molina must be at his best against Herring. Can he pull off the upset in NYC on Tuesday night?
