Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn has cast doubt on his ambitions of Croke Parke GAA stadium hosting a eagerly-anticipated trilogy fight between undisputed 140lbs champion Katie Taylor and rival Chantelle Cameron.
Taylor and Cameron handed each other the first and only defeats of their careers, with Cameron upsetting the odds to defeat Taylor in a best-to-date career performance to retain her 140lbs crown on enemy territory in Dublin. Cameron retained her titles courtesy of a majority decision.
The pair ran it back in November at the 3Arena, as Taylor took a close points win.
Post-fight, Hearn made no secret of his intentions to secure a date at Croke Park, which has a capacity of slightly over 82,000.
But Hearn has since conceded that Taylor’s date at the home of the Irish GAA is looking increasingly doubtful.
“Talks go on and on and on, and eventually, you’re in February now, and Katie’s next fight is in May, so we have to make a move,” Hearn told Boxing Social. “There is a chance we could return to the 3Arena.
“For us, we still like the idea of fighting Chantelle Cameron. We want to do that outdoors. You have to lock something in at some point. We’ve had two incredible nights at the 3Arena. It could be a third.”
However, Hearn added that venues overseas were interested in hosting the trilogy fight.
Taylor has headlined several times on the American East Coast, with her encounter with Amanda Serrano breaking several box office records for a women’s fight held at Madison Square Garden. Hearn revealed that Taylor has ambitions of headlining and fighting in Las Vegas.
“We’ve had offers from around the world,” Hearn added. “There is a chance she could fight internationally, and of course, there is America.
“A fight for Katie Taylor in America is a huge thing, particularly on the East Coast. She also has an aspiration to fight in Las Vegas.
“You could take her to Boston, Philadelphia, or New York. She sells out everywhere. She has a lot of options.”
